8. Rain Check
Anyone even vaguely familiar with Captain America's mythology knew his romance with Peggy Carter in The First Avenger was destined to be put on ice (and those who werent were effectively told as much in the prologue). But its the journey rather than the destination that counts, and Peggy and Steves dalliance remains Marvels best work in the romance stakes. As Cap guides his plane into the Arctic floor at the movies end and prepares for the inevitable, it becomes pretty obvious he wont be seeing a dance floor any time soon and he requests a rain check from Peggy with typical politeness. Instead of letting their conversation lapse into a predictable, maudlin expression of undying love, the two plan a date for Saturday week as they just about manage to keep the tears at bay - a feat that proved beyond many a moviegoer.

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
