20 Sequels That Brilliantly Fixed Past Mistakes

9. Now You See Me, Now You Don't - A... Good Twist?!

A heist movie with magicians is such a fun idea, so it's a crushing shame that 2013's Now You See Me and its even worse 2016 sequel were so underwhelming. Alongside their poor scripts and the wasting of their mouth-wateringly good casts, they ended with some of the worst twist endings in recent memory. In both cases, the whole story was negated, so few were clamouring for a third movie.

But alas, Hollywood being Hollywood, Now You See Me, Now You Don't finally came out in 2025, and it was... a legitimately fun and witty heist film that utilized the cast well and actually had a clever twist ending?! Now that is a plot twist and a half.

It's shocking, but yes, this third film is actually alright. Better still, its final reveal - that new character Charlie (Justice Smith) was the mastermind behind everything and had concocted a revenge scheme against his half-sister, villainous South African billionaire Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike) - works well and enhances the movie instead of, you know, breaking it.

It was surprising but believable, it didn't negate the rest of the film, and the whole climax was a satisfying Robin Hood fantasy of a billionaire scumbag getting their comeuppance. Too bad that doesn't happen more often in real life, eh? Now You See Me 4 is apparently in the works, and after this, for the very first time, the prospect of more of these films won't make you groan.
