20 Sick Cannibal Movies You Need To See Before You Die
15. Faces Of Death
Faces of Death is barely even a movie; it's pretty much just footage of people dying for 100 minutes. The hook was that the filmmakers claimed these clips were all real, and so it was like a '70s version of those insane websites that feature death videos. Thankfully, the majority of Faces of Death is fake, although there are a few bits in there of genuine dead bodies. For the most part, though, it was all just a marketing tactic. Mostly, Faces of Death either uses actors or combines real life footage with recreations of similar events. The reason it's often lumped in with other cannibal movies is that one section follows a cult of cannibals who open up a dead body and eat all of the organs. The whole sequence is completely gross, but it's also one of the scenes that must clearly be staged, right? How on Earth would the producers even have that footage? Well, supposedly the U.S. government wasn't so sure when Faces of Death was released in 1978. As producer Michael R. Felsher explained, "The F.B.I. was even fooled by it. They thought the cult footage was real." Imagine the terror of watching a group of cult members devour somebody and fully believing what you're seeing is legitimate. It would ruin you forever.
