20 Sick Cannibal Movies You Need To See Before You Die
14. Man From The Deep River
Man From The Deep River is yet another flick that features a young person traveling into the rain forrest and becoming dinner, but this one predates Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox. In some way, it can be thanked for helping to kickstart this whole subgenre of horror. Is thanked the right word? A photographer named Bradley heads to the forest, and he's almost instantly captured. Apparently director Umberto Lenzi wanted to give the film more tension or just show that this main character isn't a good person, and so the guy's also on the run for murder. That theme of everyone being evil continues. Once Bradley is taken captive, he realizes he's caught up in a war between two tribes, one of which consists of flesh eaters. For some reason, one of these people instantly falls in love with Bradley and tries to help him escape, and in an unusual series of events, he joins the tribe and gets a fellow member pregnant. Six months later, he's still with them and fully a part of their lifestyle when finally the cannibals strike and things get interesting. The plot is kind of nonsensical, but it does have lots of the elements that would go on to define this genre including animal cruelty and brain eating, and so it's worth a look.
