20 Terrible Movies That Do NOT Deserve Their Fresh Rotten Tomatoes Scores
2. Crash
Score: 74% (Average Score: 7.20/10)
Consensus: A raw and unsettling morality piece on modern angst and urban disconnect, Crash examines the dangers of bigotry and xenophobia in the lives of interconnected Angelenos.
Even before its infamous Best Picture win, Crash was never a good movie and it never deserved anything more than mixed reviews at most for, despite strong performances and some impressive editing, as pieces of social commentary go Crash is... well, a cinematic car crash.
It's completely unrealistic, nearly all of the character arcs are atrociously written, the dialogue is cringe-inducingly on-the-nose, the characters are all predictable stereotypes and none of its big emotional moments feel earned. Even though it obviously means well, it doesn't really say anything very much about racism in contemporary society. If anything, it treats an incredibly vital topic in an insultingly childish, simplistic way.
Factor in the entirely unremarkable directing and technical values, and you've got one of the most insulting, poorly-written and unintelligent drama films you'll ever watch - and its ridiculously unearned Best Picture win makes it even worse in retrospect.
Deserved Score: 40-59%.
