20 Terrible Oscar Nominations From The Past Ten Years - Corrected

7. Joker Getting Nominated For Eleven Oscars

Joker is a good film without a doubt, but both its status as the most nominated film this year and its astonishingly high rating on IMDb are beyond a joke. After all, it's a far from perfect film that meanders a fair bit before the brilliant final act and is decent but forgettable on a technical level.

Some of its nods were fine, especially for Joaquin Phoenix's amazing performance, but Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing all needed to go.

Corrected:

The Lighthouse, 2019's greatest horror film, should've taken both the Best Picture slot and the sound slots for its terrifying sound design, while the tragically left-out The Farewell had a considerably better and more nomination-worthy script.

The widely-maligned snubbing of Greta Gerwig for Best Director (Little Women) could easily have been fixed by swapping her out for Joker's director Todd Phillips, since she was far more deserving than him, while Ad Astra's superb editing and the to-die-for cinematography of A Hidden Life were more deserving of recognition than Joker was in either field.

As for a tenth Best Picture nominee, Knives Out was one of the year's best and most beloved films, so that should've been included.
