20 Things That Almost Completely Changed Harry Potter Movies

8. Ron And Arthur Almost Died

In the run-up to the release of The Deathly Hallows book, JK Rowling flirted with expectant readers about who might die, suggesting that she had changed her mind a number of times, and that at least one major character had been saved from death. Unfortunately, since the release, it has emerged that Tonks and Lupin weren't so lucky, as Rowling initially never intended them to die in battle. Ultimately though, she decided she wanted to make an orphan character, to bring that motif full-circle, so Teddy Lupin was chosen for the unhappy fate. It was initially supposed to be Ron who lost a parent, as Rowling also planned to kill Arthur Weasley, as she felt it unlikely that all of the Weasley's should survive. She changed her mind when she realised that it would rob Harry of another father figure, which meant that Fred ended up dying instead to drop the Weasley quota. And it could have been worse, as Rowling had decided to kill Ron out of spite about half way through her writing, when she "wasn€™t in a very happy place." Seems a bit cruel.
