20 Things You Didn't Know About Christopher Nolan

2. He's A Multiple Record Breaker

Nolan was the first director to reach three live action Batman films - Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher each leaving the series after two - although Sam Raimi was the first to do a trilogy of superhero flicks with the Spider-Man series. He's also one of only a handful of people to work on films about both of DC's Big Two characters, following the Dark Knight movies and his producing role on Man of Steel. Besides the creative side of things, he's also broken records when it comes to his box office receipts...

1. He Makes As Much As His Stars (If Not More)

You don't get into directing for the money. Unless you're Michael Bay, obviously, the most obvious route for the Hollywood mega-bucks is to become a performer - unless, apparently, you're Christopher Nolan. The director makes some of the most creative and imaginative films going, and he earns a comparably astronomical wage in doing so. He apparently got a cool $69 million for writing, producing and directing Inception, with official records stating that Nolan makes an average of $92,220 per year. For Interstellar he'll be paid the greater of more than $10 million or more than 10% of revenue, so if the film ends up making $600 million worldwide, he could earn something in the $60 million range just for release. That's like Tom Cruise money right there. Maybe it's time to give film school another shot after all...where's that Thermos...
