6. Superhero Films Have Been On The Cards For Yonks
For those that were paying attention, it looked like Christopher Nolan was angling for a comic book adaptation ever since the start of his career. His little-seen debut Following features a fairly prominent sticker of the iconic Batman logo (see above) on a door during one scene; Nolan's directorial follow-up, Memento, includes a similar scene where a car speeds past a comic book store which features not only the sigil of the Dark Knight but Superman's distinctive shield in the window as well.
5. He's A Huge Bond Fan
Unless you've got some entirely legitimate objections to the political and gender dynamics of them, nobody's really against the Bond films. However Nolan appears to have more time for the exploits of 007 than anyone else, apparently ranking On Her Majesty's Secret Service as one of his favourite films of all time, and even going so far as to model the Arctic climax of Inception after the main setting of the same movie. Apparently the darker, more serious tone of Bond film Casino Royale was inspired by Batman Begins, so in a way, Nolan helped inspire one of his biggest influences.
