20 Things Hidden In Fight Club You Totally Missed
9. No Rockstars Allowed
Any 30 Seconds to Mars fan will know that the lead singer, Jared Leto, is in this film. Yes, long before he was making hardcore DC fans cry through his portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad, he was Angel Face in Fight Club. Throughout the film, he acts as a loyal follower and someone who Tyler Durden seems to favour, making the Narrator jealous.
The band only started a year before Fight Club was released, and the movie makes a clever, yet subtle, reference to it. In one of Tyler’s speeches about what TV told men they should aspire to be – ‘millionaires and movie gods and rock stars’ – and as well as the irony that Brad Pitt could definitely be classed as a ‘movie god’, he makes an intentional point of looking at Jared Leto as he says ‘rock stars’.
Well played, Fight Club, you just insulted the singer who agreed to be in your movie. Alas, I’m sure it was all in good fun.
