20 Things Hidden In Fight Club You Totally Missed
5. Hidden Marquees
This one is a little hard to find. Other than the spliced images, it’s the only point that actively breaks the fourth wall. This one was more of an inside joke between the production design team rather than Fincher. I'm referring to the three marquees in the background of shots which show the titles of films which Helena Bonham Carter, Ed Norton and Brad Pitt have each starred in.
In the scene where the Narrator is telling Marla to get out of town, knowing about the terrorist attack which is about to happen, in the background is a marquee for Seven Years in Tibet which Brad Pitt was in. Fincher has gone on record to say that the two other marquees were unfortunately blocked by a bus. However, in the following scene as Norton’s character stands there watching Marla leave, marquees for Wings of the Dove and Larry Flint can just be seen in the background.
Somebody should probably let the director know that this little cameo didn’t in fact go to waste.
