20 Things That Almost Completely Changed The MCU

2. Patty Jenkins Was Originally Hired To Direct Thor: The Dark World

There are a lot of Marvel fans who think that Thor: The Dark World remains the studio's weakest effort to date, and a lot of that has to do with the forgettable direction courtesy of one Alan Taylor. Taylor, mostly renowned for his work on TV shows like Game of Thrones, The Sopranos and Mad Men, offered up a style best described as "factory-like" - the movie felt inconsequential as a result; an MCU chapter you could afford to miss. A shame, then, that Marvel didn't find a way to settle their creative differences with the person they originally hired to helm the project: Patty Jenkins. Yes, it was Jenkins - best known for having made the brilliantly dark biopic Monster (for which Charlize Theron bagged an Oscar, don't you know?) - who found herself tasked with leading the charge on Thor: The Dark World, but was ultimately dropped when she was unable to see eye to eye with the studio. Unfortunate, really, given that Thor 2 would have marked the first MCU flick to have been directed by a woman. Now Jenkins has moved over to the DC Cinematic Universe; she's set to direct Wonder Woman, which is scheduled for release in 2017. Nice one, Patty.
