20 Things That Almost Completely Changed The MCU

15. F. Gary Gray Was Offered Captain America: The Winter Soldier And Turned It Down

F. Gary Gray, director of Friday and The Negotiator, just had a huge hit with Straight Outta Compton, a biographical drama chronicling the rise and fall of hip hop group N.W.A.. Due to the success of the film, it's rumoured that Gray is being considered as a potential director for the upcoming Black Panther movie, which is set to star Chadwick Boseman as the superhero of the title. Whilst that deal is yet to be announced, it's interesting to note that F. Gary Gray has actually been in talks with Marvel before. In fact, he was considered to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier before the Russo brothers came along. Gray turned down the chance to direct the movie, however, because he wanted to pursue another project instead. A project called... Straight Outta Compton. Funny how it all comes together. He almost certainly made the right choice, given that he wound up with a great film of his own, whilst The Winter Soldier - under the Russos - marked the best MCU flick to date.
