20 Things That Almost Completely Changed The MCU

14. Quicksilver Wasn't Necessarily Supposed To Die In Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Joss Whedon has earned a reputation over the years for killing off characters everybody loves (oh, Agent Coulson!), though in Avengers: Age Of Ultron he killed off a character that audiences didn't even have a chance to get to know properly. Uh-huh: the mutant-esque Quicksilver met his end in Age Of Ultron after being shot to death with a number of bullets; it was a relatively unexpected moment in the movie, and one that nobody really saw coming. But it wasn't always Marvel's plan to kill off Quicksilver; somewhere out there there's an alternate MCU in which the speedy character survives. Want proof? An alternate final scene was shot in which Quicksilver lives and joins the Avengers with his sister. Joss Whedon stated he'd only use said ending if Disney forced it upon him, but - to his surprise - they actually let Quicksilver perish. Still, it was never set in stone that Quicksilver had to die; it wasn't until the edit that the decision was made. Strange to think, then, that Quicksilver could have very easily wound up as one of the Avengers had Whedon decided to keep the character around.
