12. Matthew Vaughn Was Originally Hired To Direct Thor
Matthew Vaughn has produced two of the best and most interesting blockbusters of the last few years: Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class. Before he was ever involved with those pictures, though, Marvel hired Vaughn to direct Thor. Seriously: Vaughn was hired as the director of Thor back in 2007, four years before it was eventually released in theatres. When the project stalled, however, Vaughn was released from his holding contract and he went on to pursue other things. Given what great stuff Vaughn produced in the aftermath of his departure from Marvel, it was probably a good thing that Kenneth Branagh was ultimately hired instead. That said, Matthew Vaughn is a very skilled director and his Thor movie would have probably been just as good as the one that Marvel ultimately delivered. Oh, well.
