20 Things You Didn’t Know About Casino Royale (2006)

5. So, As Handsome As You Are, Miss Lynd...

Casino Royale Daniel Craig
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

The moving shower scene in which James Bond comforts Vesper Lynd after the Treasury agent has been forced to assist Double-0 Seven in eliminating Lord’s Resistance Army leader, Steven Obanno to ensure their own safety marks a key turning point in their relationship.

However, it had originally adopted a standard trope from the Bond franchise: in the script, Vesper was meant to be dressed only in her underwear, apparently waiting for Double-0 Seven to find her sitting in the cold shower water.

Daniel Craig argued that Vesper would not have stopped to remove her dress due to her sense of guilt and Martin Campbell agreed. They shot the scene with Eva Green fully-clothed as Craig had suggested and completed it in one take.

In preserving Vesper's dignity, the sequence not only became iconic within the film, but also served as a springboard for the endearing and tragic love story that followed.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
