20 Things You Didn’t Know About For Your Eyes Only (1981)

James Bond For Your Eyes Only
MGM/UA

For Your Eyes Only was originally meant to have had a more literal pre-credits sequence that tied directly into the title than the helicopter action sequence that actually fronts it.

After her parents' assassination, Melina kneels by their side, cradling a shawl that she had bought for her mother before looking directly into the camera, firstly in shock and then with anger burning in her eyes.

The sequence was originally meant to segue into Maurice Binder’s novel titles sequence featuring Sheena Easton performing the film’s main theme. However, it was decided that the pre-credits scene needed to reintroduce James Bond first and that tying up the loose ends flowing from On Her Majesty’s Secret Service after the titles sequence might risk taking the audience out of the plot of For Your Eyes Only.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
