During their run, the Bond films have committed a stunning array of death-defying stunts to the silver screen, but it is important to remember that they are and have always been intended as a form of entertainment.

Sadly, despite all the safety precautions that were taken on-set, For Your Eyes Only became the first Bond film to witness a fatality, after some near misses whilst filming some of the previous entries.

During the ski chase between Erich Kriegler and Double-0 Seven in Cortina d’Ampezzo in northern Italy, 23-year-old stuntman, Paolo Rigoni was critically injured after he became trapped beneath an overturned bobsleigh. Tragically, he later died of his injuries in hospital.

Whilst the scene involved James Bond tearing down a bobsleigh run on skis pursued by Kriegler on a motorbike, it was sadly one of the people who was following the proper use of the bobsleigh run who perished as a result of the stunt.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
