5. The Marketing Really Played Up The Parodic Elements

As part of the marketing for the film, E! broadcast a mockumentary featuring cast members portraying their actor character discussing their sci-fi characters. Extras from convention scenes shot for the movie were shot giving interviews as though they were fans of the fictitious TV show, and outtakes, bloopers and behind-the-scenes footage from Galaxy Quest (the film) were used as clips from Galaxy Quest (the television series).

That wasn’t all - a terrible, very 1999-looking website was set up specifically to look like an amateurish fansite on the TV show, continuing the promotional theme of pretending that Galaxy Quest had actually been an eighties TV show. You can find a copy of the site below...
