2. Everyone Was Up For A Sequel…

...that is, until 2016, when Alan Rickman tragically died of pancreatic cancer. The entire cast was up for it, which only reiterated the wonderful time they’d had on the film. Allen even spitballed the bare bones of the plot:

“...it's 15 years later. The Thermians come back, but they haven't aged. Maybe they don't have warp anymore so it took 15 years. They have to search for a new homeland. Sarris [the main villain] is gone but his family never forgets and you take it from there…”

Allen was insistent for years that a sequel had actually been written, and - following a suitable mourning period for Rickman - gossip began to circulate in late 2017 that a sequel - either a movie or a TV show - was being developed with writer Paul Scheer and Amazon.

Recent changes at Paramount’s executive level have placed the project on hold, but that could change any time...
