Casey Biggs - Damar on Star Trek: Deep Space 9 - was less than thrilled, commenting simply that he’d seen the film but that it wasn’t really like that.

William Shatner seemed ambivalent, claiming to love the movie but not to see himself in the lead:

"I thought it was very funny, and I thought the audience that they portrayed was totally real, but the actors that they were pretending to be were totally unrecognisable. Certainly I don't know what Tim Allen was doing. He seemed to be the head of a group of actors, and for the life of me I was trying to understand who he was imitating. The only one I recognised was the girl playing Nichelle Nichols."

Shatner was so vehement that Jason Nesmith and Peter Quincy Taggart were nothing to do with him or his Captain Kirk that self-confessed sci-fi nerd Allen, who ended up becoming friends with Shatner after appearing in the movie, later claimed to have based the character on Yul Brynner rather than annoy his new buddy.
