20 Things You Didn’t Know About GoldenEye (1995)

11. Lend Me A Hand, Will You Son?

Goldeneye Pierce Brosnan
MGM/UA

Whilst Pierce Brosnan's hand healed, he needed a hand double for certain sequences.

He turned to his adopted son, Christopher, who stood in for him (hand-wise) in certain sequences throughout the film. These included Bond’s use of the laser piton gun in the pre-credits sequence, tugging on the handbrake of the Aston Martin DB5 and opening its armrest to reveal a chilled bottle of Bollinger champagne, and holding the Omega Seamaster laser wristwatch to burn through the floor of Trevelyan’s armoured ICBM train.

At the time, Christopher was the third assistant trainee on the film’s second unit. He is the son of Cassandra Harris and her first husband, Dermot. Cassandra had co-starred opposite Sir Roger Moore as Countess Lisl von Schlaf in For Your Eyes Only (1981), but tragically passed away only a decade later, before Brosnan became Double-0 Seven.

Sadly, even though Christopher Brosnan is a film director, he is now estranged from his adoptive father.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
