20 Things You Didn’t Know About GoldenEye (1995)

Goldeneye Pierce Brosnan

The demonstration of the Tiger helicopter in Monte Carlo was filmed onboard an actual stealth ship, La Fayette, which was provided by permission of the French Navy.

The French government also gave permission for Navy logos to be used when promoting the sequence and loaned one of its Eurocopter Tiger helicopters - a prototype military aircraft at the time - to the production. The Tiger even performed a barrel roll as Xenia Onatopp piloted it out of the marina, but this was cut from the film, although the idea later resurfaced in the pre-credits sequence of SPECTRE (2015).

However, Pierce Brosnan - a prominent member of Greenpeace - was deeply opposed to France’s nuclear tests in the South Pacific and boycotted the film’s French premiere, which resulted in it being cancelled.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
