20 Things You Didn’t Know About Iron Man 2
3. Tim Robbins Was Considered For Howard Stark
The brilliant John Slattery was ultimately cast to play an older version of Tony Stark's father Howard, but the venerable Tim Robbins was originally considered for the part.
One assumes that Favreau considered Robbins after the actor played a dad in his 2005 movie Zathura: A Space Adventure, but ultimately, it's tough to argue with the final pick. Despite Robbins actually being older than Slattery, Slattery just evokes that grizzled fatherly vibe a little better.
Robbins did get to play a comic book daddy a year later, though, when he appeared in Green Lantern as Robert Hammond, the father of the villainous Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard).
