20 Things You Didn’t Know About Iron Man 2
2. There's Tons Of Hidden Wordplay
There's a surprising amount of secret wordplay in Iron Man 2 for those who understand either Russian or Latin.
For starters, Ivan tells Justin Hammer that he will make the drones "salute" at the Expo, and in Russian, the word "salyut" means both salute and "fireworks," subtly foreshadowing Vanko's climatic self-destruct sequence.
While talking with Hammer, Ivan also says in Russian, "Slishkom mnogo govorish," which translates to, "You talk too much," while using an informal version of "you" which implies Ivan doesn't much respect Hammer.
And finally, once Natasha's secret identity is revealed, Tony Stark asks if she really speaks Latin, to which she retorts, "Fallaces sunt rerum species," a quote from the Roman philosopher Lucio Anneo Seneca which means, "The appearances of things are deceptive." Nice.
