20 Things You Didn’t Know About Live And Let Die (1973)

Live and Let Die Bond Solitaire
MGM/UA

Soon after landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, James Bond is left driving the CIA taxi taking him to Manhattan from the back seat after Mr Big's henchman, Whisper (Earl Jolly Brown) fires a lethal dart into his driver, Charlie (Joie Chitwood) from a passing Pimpmobile. Tearing down Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive, Bond desperately avoids other traffic and finally succeeds in bringing the cab to a stop.

In truth, Roger Moore was leaning over Joie Chitwood’s shoulder in close-ups, whilst a stuntman doubled for the actor in long shots, but Chitwood was in complete control of the car during the entire sequence - not an easy task when he had to play dead at the same time!

Chitwood also performed some of the Louisiana Bayou boat chase, including the sequence in which Bond’s boat tears over a small causeway, soaring above Sheriff J.W. Pepper and Kananga's goon, Adam (Tommy Lane).

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
