After Wilson Fisk guns down Uncle Aaron, Miles is left heartbroken. As he wallows in grief, Spider-Ham tries to reassure Miles, reminding him, "You can't always save everybody." This is a hard-hitting moment, that's all the more poignant because viewers were expecting the porcine hero to deliver a badly timed joke.

However, that was the initial idea. In The Q&A With Jeff Goldsmith podcast (via i09), Into the Spider-Verse's co-director, Rodney Rothman, explains how this scenario could've played out differently. Originally, Spider-Ham told Miles how he lost his Uncle Frankfurter, saying the line, "He was electrocuted... and it smelled so good."

The filmmakers thought the joke was hilarious, but removed it, since it undercut Miles' grief. To match the scene's sombre tone, Spider-Ham's funny line was replaced with a tear-jerking lament. The movie lost a great gag, but it was the right move, since Spider-Ham's new line proved he had more to offer than comic relief.
