20 Things You Didn’t Know About Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
5. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Could've Had More Spider-Heroes
Miles Morales' Spider-team consists of himself, Peter B. Parker, Spider-Gwen, Penny Parker, Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Ham. Because there are countless variations of Spider-Man, there are many other web-slingers who could've made an appearance.
In an interview with /Film, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller discussed how they originally wanted more and more Spider-People pop up throughout the movie. Even though this would be a great way to cram in a ton of fan-service, this idea was dismissed, to ensure nothing pulled focus from Miles and his crew.
Co-director, Rodney Rothman, opted for the inclusion of Australian Spider-Man, who would appear at the same time as Noir, Peni, and Ham. Aussie Spidey served as a punchline, since he'd glitch to death immediately after introducing himself.
When the creators decided to incorporate an Asian-based Spidey, they strongly considered having Cindy Moon AKA Silk (via BuzzFeed) join the fray. After going back and forth on the idea, they ultimately decided Peni Parker would be a better fit.
