He may be forever etched into most people's brains as the unmistakable and deeply loveable Daniel "Spud" Murphy to most, but Ewan Bremner actually first found himself being introduced to Irvine Welsh's universe via a different entry point.

Taking up the part of Renton in the stage show adaptation of the source material, Bremner was initially a touch reluctant to agree to appear in Boyle's flick as Spud, claiming, "I felt it was similar to stuff that I’d done before."

After a spell of sitting on the decision, the star finally realised that, despite very much wanting a crack at what would eventually become Ewan McGregor's breakout role, he would have been "a bit of a snob" to pass up the chance to work on the eventual mega hit.
