Akiko Wakabayashi, who played Japanese Secret Service agent, Aki could not drive. Moreover, this is the only Bond film to date in which Double-0 Seven does not drive.

The scenes involving Aki’s distinctive white Toyota 2000GT were filmed with a combination of stuntmen wearing wigs, back and front screen projection, and several crew members pulling the sports car with a concealed cable on location.

Two convertible versions of the 2000GT were produced specifically for the film (the only two of their kind), as Sean Connery was too tall to sit in the hardtop version.

During the car chase involving the Toyota 2000GT and Osato’s goons, the filmmakers struggled to find a way to dispose of Bond and Aki’s pursuers until Cubby Broccoli’s wife, Dana suggested that a plane carrying an electromagnet could lift the assassins’ car away. The idea was adapted for a Kawasaki Vertol helicopter, which dumped the killers into Tokyo Bay.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
