20 Things You Didn't Know About 2021's Oscar Nominees

Hillbilly Elegy netted just two Oscar nominations - Best Supporting Actress (Glenn Close) and Best Makeup and Hairstyling - while Amy Adams was left off the slate despite receiving a Best Actress nomination from the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Only exacerbating the narrative that Ron Howard's film is shameless "Oscar bait" is the fact that Close and Adams are both perennial Oscar "bridesmaids" who are constantly nominated yet have never been able to win.

Between Close's eight nominations over a 38-year period and Adams' six nominations over 15 years, the two have a stonking 14 nominations between them without a win, making them perhaps the unluckiest pairing of Oscar darling actors in history.

But Close may well end up breaking the "curse" soon enough.
