Another Round ended up receiving two Oscar nominations this year, for Best International Feature Film and, more surprisingly, Best Director.

The blackly comedic drama is suffused with a heartbreaking layer of tragedy for filmmaker Vinterberg, though, whose daughter Ida - who was originally planned to play Mads Mikkelsen's daughter in the film - was killed in a car accident just four days into shooting.

This caused the film's co-writer Tobias Lindholm to step in and direct the film while Vinterberg dealt with the situation, at which point he also reworked the script - which was inspired by Ida's own tales of youthful drunkenness - to be more existential in tone.

Furthermore, many of Ida's own classmates and friends ended up playing small parts in the film, and some scenes were even shot in one of the actual classrooms where Ida studied.

Fittingly, the film is dedicated to Ida's memory.
