20 Things You Didn't Know About A View To A Kill (1985)

11. Up, Up, And Away!

A View To A Kill
MGM/UA

The climactic fight atop San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge is a definitive Bond moment, even though the method of getting there is a bit odd.

Max Zorin inflates an airship from inside a Portakabin with his co-conspirators, Scarpine (Patrick Bauchau) and Dr. Carl Mortner a.k.a. Hans Glaub (Willoughby Gray), before abducting Stacey Sutton whilst Bond clings to the mooring rope.

Zorin’s dirigible is certainly distinctive for someone planning to flee from an earthquake that he has caused and certainly turns a few heads as it speeds over San Francisco.

However, he manages to inflate his airship and take to the skies in a few minutes whereas, in reality, it would take at least 24 hours to do so.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
