20 Things You Didn't Know About A View To A Kill (1985)

6. The Mayor Says Yes, James

Dianne Feinstein was the Mayor of San Francisco during the filming of A View to a Kill and allowed the filmmakers to shoot in the city because Roger Moore was her favourite actor to play James Bond.

The production was given unprecedented access to civic facilities, including filming the fire truck chase through the city's streets, setting fire to City Hall (in a non-destructive way), and filming scenes atop the Golden Gate Bridge as long as no punches were thrown.

To thank the Mayor for granting such extensive permissions, producer Cubby Broccoli arranged for the film’s premiere to be held at the city’s Palace of Fine Arts at which a stuntman parachuted in to present a donation cheque for a charity of the Mayor's choice.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
