20 Things You Didn't Know About Alien 3

8. $7 Million Was Spent On.... Nothing

Alien 3
20th Century Fox

With scripts being rejected and directors walking away from the project left, right, and centre, the producers realised they were haemorrhaging money. To save time, massive sets were designed and built before the script was finalised. Revised scenes were faxed to the studio (this was when fax machines were still a thing) almost every day. Sometimes, the actors and crew would film a scene, only to learn it was scrapped the next day.

Although the film's budget was originally $45 million, the constant changes and reshoots caused the budget to swell to $65 million, making AlienĀ³ one of the most expensive films ever at the time. Of that $65 million, it is estimated that $7 million was spent on sets that were never used. This means that over 10% of the entire budget was spent on absolutely nothing.
