7. The Marines Personalised Their Own Body Armour
In keeping with the Vietnam War aesthetic of the film, as well as the general look of the armour, the actors playing the marines were encouraged to personalise their body armour.
The actress who plays Corporal Dietrich, one of the marines who is killed early on, has the words 'Blue Angel' daubed on the back of her helmet. This is a reference to the film Der Blaue Angel, starring Marlene Dietrich.
Bill Paxton had the word 'Louise' inscribed in his armour, which is a reference to his wife Louise Newbury.
