The notoriety of Ellis' novel gave the production quite the headache when it came to securing real-life brand names for Patrick Bateman's wardrobe and accessories.

For example, Cerruti allowed Christian Bale to wear their designer suits but only when the character wasn't murdering anyone. Rolex meanwhile agreed that any character other than Bateman could wear their watches, so one of Patrick's lines from the book had to be changed from "Don't touch the Rolex" to "Don't touch the watch."

Calvin Klein were originally going to supply Bateman's underwater but pulled out at the last minute, with Perry Ellis ultimately coming to the rescue.

Most hilariously of all, Jean Paul Gaultier agreed for their overnight bags to be used in the film after Comme des Garçons objected to their bags being used to transport corpses in.
