20 Things You Didn't Know About Batman Forever

8. When Burton Was Still Involved, So Was Scarecrow

Tim Burton had originally planned to make Batman Forever, a title both he and Schumacher hated. Schumacher likened the "forever" part to some dumb crap you put on a T-shirt or a prison tattoo, not a movie. So Burton aimed for Batman Continues, and intended it to be the closure of a trilogy, each exploring a different theme surrounding the character.

His first film would deal with coping with tragedy, the second with redemption and the third would probe overcoming fear after suffering loss. So naturally, Burton would include Scarecrow, the villainous doctor who used his fear toxin to send his victims into a panicked frenzy. He even knew he wanted Brad Douriff for the role.

The studio wasn't keen on Burton's new ideas, and that's around the time when the changing of the guard began.
