9. Believe It Or Not, Schumacher Wanted It Darker

Joel Schumacher is often credited for the neon, strobe-lit flamboyant, goofy tone of his two entries in the Batman franchise, and it's earned. The director has a penchant for rave-like decor. Initially, however, the director intended to stay true to Burton's much darker vision.

It was actually the producers and studio that pushed for a lighter, more kid-friendly tone. By the time he got around to Batman and Robin, Schumacher's heart wasn't in it at all. Before each take, he would announce to cast and crew that they were essentially just shooting one, long toy commercial.
