20 Things You Didn't Know About Batman Forever

17. Robin Was Supposed To Already Be There

Upon release, Batman Forever's big gimmick was the fact that they were finally adding Robin, Batman's young protege and sidekick, in the mix. But had Batman Returns stuck to its script, Robin's appearance wouldn't have come as a surprise. The script initially featured Robin as the African American leader of a gang and part-time auto-mechanic. He was to be played by Marlon Wayans. His part was the addition of an uncredited rewrite by Wesley Strick.

When Sam Hamm and Daniel Waters were brought on board, however, the character was the first to go. Waters went as far as describing Robin as the "most worthless character in the world" particular in a Batman story - one about the ultimate loner. Having a sidekick, the writers felt, cheapened the affair.
