20 Things You Didn't Know About Batman Forever

15. Contrarily, Tommy Lee Jones Hated Jim Carrey

Val Kilmer Batman Forever
Warner Bros.

Perhaps the most famous (and funny) story behind Batman Forever came from Carrey years later but has since been confirmed by director Joel Schumacher. It turns out that all those crowd shots of Tommy Lee Jones at awards shows where he sits silently glowering while the host tries to tell a joke were not an intentional part of the act. Off-set stories range from requesting a waitress to be fired for politely acknowledging his career to Carrey's now-famous tale.

Carrey spotted Jones at a restaurant before filming began and thought he'd do the honourable thing and introduce himself. The two embraced, at which point Jones said, "I hate you. I cannot sanction your buffoonery."

What can one expect from the former dormmate of Al Gore? Lighthearted banter?
