14. Val Kilmer Lived Up To His "Difficult" Reputation

Chuck Klosterman wrote a piece about spending a weekend at Val Kilmer's ranch, during which came to a few conclusions that are both surprising and contradictory to what we knew about Kilmer circa 1995. First, Kilmer is a bit of a name-dropper, often bringing up famous people he met. Second, he believes that, if he were to play a character in the Vietnam war, he would have a complete and accurate and understanding of what it was like to face live combat only to be spat on upon returning home. And third, Val Kilmer is actually a pretty nice guy.

In 1995, however, he was not. After filming the last of his scenes for The Island of Dr. Moreau, director John Frankenheimer said, "Now get that bastard off my set".

Kilmer was going through a divorce from Joanne Whalley, and it was certainly taking its toll on his personality. Schumacher was no fan, eiither, though he admits the actor delivered a solid performance despite.
