20 Things You Didn't Know About Batman Returns

16. Robin Was Also Written Out Of The Script

You know that phrase 'All dressed up with nowhere to go'? Well, it's bad enough when somebody bails on you at the last minute after you've gone to all the effort of ironing a fresh t-shirt and washing behind your ears for a night on the town, but next time you're feeling a little glum because of your flaky mates, spare a thought for poor Marlon Wayans.

Not only was the Scary Movie star casted as Robin in Returns, he was so deeply involved in the production process that he was even measured up for a bloody suit. At that stage, you would have put your mortgage and any copper you had kicking about down the back of the sofa on him landing his biggest silver screen role to date, but instead, the Boy Wonder was dropped from the script quicker than you can say 'Holy Crushed Dreams, Batman!'.

The reason for Robin getting the boot? Too many characters, apparently. Warner Bros were concerned they were introducing too many new characters at once and decided to hold him back for a sequel, effectively paying Wayans off for doing no work.
