When Ridley Scott cast Rutger Hauer in the role of Roy Batty, he had yet to meet him. He had been so impressed with his performances in The Sensualist, Katie Tippel and The Soldier Of Orange that he cast him immediately, knowing he would be perfect for the role.

Hauer, however, decided to play a trick on Scott for their first meeting by turning up wearing huge green sunglasses, pink satin pants and a white sweater with an image of a fox on the front. The joke was effective, and it's reported that upon seeing Hauer, Scott immediately turned white, believing he had made a terrible mistake.
