7. A French Director

A lot of American-produced films have actually had French directors and Catwoman is one of them. Although people still seem to dispute how to pronounce his name, French director, Pitof helmed the film.

Other French directors have also helmed big American productions, often with varying results. For example, Pierre Morel directed the 2008 Liam Neeson vehicle, Taken, whilst Louis Leterrier directed an adaptation of The Incredible Hulk. Another high-profile example is Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 1997 sequel, Alien Resurrection starring Sigourney Weaver.

Although it was not exactly what audiences really wanted, Catwoman is actually quite an artistic film. This is not surprising, perhaps, as Pitof (born Jean-Christophe Comar) is traditionally a visual effects director (in fact, he performed this role, along with that of second unit director, on Jeunet's Alien Resurrection).

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
