20 Things You Didn't Know About Catwoman

19. The Halle Cat

In one of the nicer stories to emerge from the set of Catwoman, the cast and crew grew so close to Halle Berry that they started nicknaming her "the Halle Cat" (alley rhymes with Halle, after all).

Even though the film was a clunker, this was the first live action performance to actually present the character as being a woman who is also a cat. (Although, you could argue that the camp Adam West TV series and its spin-off film actually seemed to present characters such as Catwoman and The Penguin as being human versions of the animals that they chose to portray).

As such, whilst CGI was used to show Berry's pupils contracting to become those of a cat and her habit of running around the walls like a cat, Berry was also actually trained to move like a feline, including turning her entire head to physically look at things rather than just moving her eyes like a human would.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
