20 Things You Didn't Know About Catwoman
1. Warner Brothers Considered Cancelling The Film
Catwoman was mired in development hell for years, essentially having been green-lit after Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman survived in 1992's Batman Returns.
It was originally a Tim Burton project, but both he and Michelle Pfeiffer eventually dropped out. Rumours then developed of actresses such as Ashley Judd and Batman Forever's Nicola Kidman donning the catsuit instead.
When Warner Brothers' original plans for a Batman vs. Superman film fell through in the early 2000s, Catwoman had a chance at being the project to save the Batman legacy. However, even though Halle Berry had been cast by 2003, following her Oscar winning turn in 2001's Monster's Ball and her performance in 2002's Die Another Day, Warners had considered cancelling the film.
Christopher Nolan's 2005 film, Batman Begins, was in pre-production at that time. Given its partial inspiration by Frank Miller's 1987 comic book story arc, Batman: Year One in which Catwoman featured prominently, it was considered possible to assimilate Berry's Catwoman into that film instead. However, the Catwoman film finally went ahead and Selina Kyle was struck from Batman Begins.
