In 1999, Playboy Magazine released some nude photos of the actress taken five years prior. Perhaps an extension of what she learned in the modeling industry, perhaps just because she didn't appreciate the photos being published without her consent, Theron grasped the concept of controlling her brand.

She had already appeared nude in a few films by the time the photos surfaced, but those scenes were on her terms, not some tawdry magazine editor's.

She unsuccessfully brought suit against Playboy.
