Though Nolan doesn't tend to talk much about his unrealised projects, it is known that he spent years planning a biopic of legendary American business magnate Howard Hughes, as was set to star Jim Carrey.

Nolan called the screenplay "one of the best things [he's] ever written" at the time, though ultimately abandoned plans to make the film after Insomnia once Martin Scorsese assembled his own Leonardo DiCaprio-starring Hughes biopic, The Aviator.

It all worked out for Nolan, though, who went on to direct Batman Begins and became a household name as a result.

2011 reports did suggest Nolan was picking the project back up with the intent of shifting the focus to Hughes' later OCD-riddled years, but he later declared the project dead.
