The astronomical success of the Dark Knight Saga has allowed Nolan to become one of the most successful modern Hollywood filmmakers, with Warner Bros. near enough giving him carte blanche to achieve his visions, while ensuring he commands colossal paydays for his work.

This reached its apex in 2017, then, when Nolan was reportedly paid a stonking $20 million to direct Dunkirk, which remains the largest salary ever paid to a director for a single movie.

Better still, Nolan also received 20% of the film's box office, which given its eventual $526.9 million worldwide cume, suggests he earned over $100 million from his box office cut alone.

Nolan has apparently secured himself a similar deal for Tenet, though with the current state of cinemas being what it is, it remains to be seen whether or not it will result in quite the same windfall.
